A Role Rooted in Impact

As a Content Writer/Editor, you'll be instrumental in translating complex programmatic information into compelling, human-centered narratives. You'll work closely with the Communications and Programs teams, crafting engaging content for a variety of platforms including social media, reports, newsletters, blogs, and campaigns. Your words will highlight the vital work of SwitchON Foundation in climate-resilient agriculture, clean energy, and green livelihoods, giving a voice to the communities they serve across 10 states in India.

Beyond the Keyboard: Key Responsibilities

This isn't just about writing; it's about storytelling with a purpose. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Content Creation & Editing: Crafting, refining, and proofreading content that resonates, ensuring consistency in tone, grammar, and formatting.

• Storytelling & Impact Documentation: Developing powerful human-interest stories, documenting farmers' journeys, and creating compelling case studies from field programs. This includes conducting interviews with beneficiaries, field staff, and partners.

• Social Media & Campaign Support: Collaborating on concise and impactful content for ongoing awareness drives and providing editorial support for key events.

• Content Calendar & Coordination: Contributing to monthly content calendars and gathering crucial program updates and impact data from project teams.

Who They're Looking For: Skills and Experience

SwitchON Foundation is seeking a professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the social/development sector communications. Ideal candidates will possess:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Development Studies, or a related field.

• A proven portfolio showcasing published stories, reports, or campaign content.

• Exceptional storytelling, writing, editing, and interviewing skills.

• A deep understanding of development sector themes such as climate change, gender, and livelihoods.

• The ability to manage deadlines and multiple content requests independently.

• Proficiency in MS Word, Google Docs, Canva, and social media platforms.

• Fluency in English (both verbal and written) is essential, with Hindi or Bengali proficiency a significant advantage for local interviews and translations.

• Knowledge of SEO writing or video scriptwriting is a bonus!

Flexibility and Fair Compensation

This is a part-time, freelance engagement offering up to Rs. 40,000/- per month, commensurate with experience and output. The role offers a flexible hybrid/remote setup, with a preference for candidates based in Kolkata, West Bengal, but open to those working from home. Minimal travel for field visits may be required occasionally.
