The Role: Driving the Narrative
The Manager of Media Relations will be a key member of the Center’s Press Team, reporting directly to the Senior Media Adviser. This role is crucial for translating complex legal arguments into powerful, digestible messages that resonate with the media and the public. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of securing high-profile media coverage and managing press strategies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities include:
Public Relations Strategy: Developing and executing impactful public relations strategies for the Center's 30+ ongoing lawsuits and U.S. policy initiatives.
Media Engagement: Cultivating and expanding relationships with journalists, editors, and producers at national, regional, and local outlets to secure top-tier coverage.
Content Creation: Writing compelling press releases, statements, talking points, and op-eds that promote the Center's work and key issues like abortion access and maternal healthcare.
Spokesperson Preparation: Preparing and training spokespeople for media appearances, ensuring they are equipped to deliver clear and powerful messages.
Strategic Monitoring: Proactively surveying the media landscape to identify opportunities and challenges, and developing rapid response strategies.
Candidate Profile & Compensation
The Center is seeking a professional with a minimum of eight years of experience in media relations or journalism. Experience in advocacy or a legal field is preferred, along with existing relationships with key members of the press. The role requires exceptional writing, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to thrive under pressure.
The annual salary for this position is $96,000, reflecting a base in New York City or Washington, D.C.
