🎯 Role Overview and Impact
The NRM Expert will be the technical leader responsible for the planning, designing, and implementing all Natural Resource Management activities within the project area. The primary focus is on soil and water conservation (SWC), watershed development, and promoting the sustainable utilization of resources.
This is a high-impact role that requires not only technical expertise but also strong leadership and community engagement skills to ensure the interventions are robust, socially equitable, and built for long-term community ownership.
🛠️ Key Technical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take charge of the entire lifecycle of NRM structures:
Design & Execution: Lead the technical design and execution of various SWC structures, including check dams, farm ponds, recharge wells, contour bunds, and percolation tanks.
Feasibility Studies: Conduct necessary site surveys, hydrological assessments, and feasibility studies to select optimal locations and designs.
Documentation: Prepare detailed technical drawings, cost estimates, and work plans.
Quality Assurance: Monitor construction to ensure strict adherence to technical specifications, quality standards, and environmental/social safeguards.
Digital Tools: Utilize GIS mapping and other digital tools to track progress, assess outcomes, and manage project sites.1
🤝 Capacity Building and Coordination
A major component of this role is ensuring the sustainability of NRM work through community empowerment and institutional convergence:
Community Engagement: Facilitate active participation from local communities, fostering community ownership through the establishment and strengthening of Pani Panchayats and other local institutions.
Capacity Building: Train and mentor Assistant NRM Experts, Cluster Coordinators, Community Resource Persons (CRPs), and community members on effective water and soil conservation practices.2
Government Liaison: Coordinate extensively with government departments (e.g., Agriculture, Soil Conservation, Jal Nigam) to secure technical validation, ensure convergence, and leverage governmental resources for project scale-up.
Integration: Collaborate with project teams to seamlessly integrate NRM activities with complementary components like livelihoods improvement and climate-resilient agriculture.
